Senior Lead Software Engineering Instructor, 足球竞彩网 Assembly
Daniel is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, with a background in finance, having earned a B.S. in Business with a concentration in Finance. After a decade in the financial industry, he became fascinated by the power of software automation and spent two years training as a software developer while still working in finance.
He began building web applications for small businesses, which led to the launch of MDJ Studios, a development studio serving small businesses and nonprofits. As cybersecurity concerns grew among his clients, Daniel shifted toward secure development and web application security.
His transition into tech opened the door to teaching, and since 2017, he has served as a Senior Lead Software Engineering Instructor at 足球竞彩网 Assembly. He has mentored hundreds of developers and was honored as a Distinguished Faculty Member for his impact in the classroom.
When AI tools gained widespread adoption in 2022, Daniel pivoted again, learning to build intelligent tools and agentic workflows while teaching others to do the same. Passionate about building empowering software and mentoring future technologists, Daniel remains active in the community through events, workshops, and talks.
IN CONVERSATION WITH DANIEL:
What is your favorite technical skill to work with on your own projects and why?
My favorite technical skill to work with on my own projects is integrating AI solutions to streamline routine and rule-based processes. I love the challenge of taking a repetitive workflow like customer support, data organization, or content generation, and engineering an intelligent system that handles it automatically. It’s incredibly satisfying to build something that not only solves a problem but continues adding value long after it’s deployed. I also enjoy the creative element involved in identifying the right mix of models, APIs, and automation layers to bring the solution to life.
My favorite technical skill to teach is coding, especially in Python and JavaScript. Teaching students to code isn’t just about syntax; it’s about helping them learn to think critically and systematically. It teaches them how to approach problems, organize their logic, and build solutions from the ground up. While I love both languages, I’ve found Python to be increasingly valuable, especially with the rising demand for AI-powered solutions. Helping students get comfortable with Python not only opens doors in web development, but also sets them up to explore cutting-edge fields like machine learning and automation.
What’s most important to me about teaching technical skills at 足球竞彩网 Assembly is the opportunity to help people future-proof their careers. I believe that as the world continues to evolve, our ability to adapt and augment our workflows with technology will define our professional success. I’m especially passionate about GA’s mission to empower career changers because I’ve lived that story. After serving nearly two decades combined in the military and finance industries, I transitioned into software engineering, where I've now found myself drawn toward AI-powered solutions and automation. Now, I get to use that journey to inspire and guide others as they make bold pivots of their own. Helping students gain the confidence and competence to step into tech is deeply personal for me.
If you’re looking to break into tech or pivot into a new technical career, one of the best things you can do is get out into the community, go to tech meetups, workshops, or conferences. Immersing yourself in an environment where people are already doing the work you aspire to do is incredibly motivating. It gives you a chance to ask questions like, “What skills did you need to master to land your role?” or “Where do you see the industry going in the next few years?” You’ll also gain insights into different career paths, what a typical day looks like in various roles, and how people overcame their own challenges. On top of that, you’re expanding your network, which is often how mentorships form and job opportunities arise. Many people I've met at events like these have become lifelong connections or opened doors I didn’t even know existed.
Outside of teaching, I stay deeply engaged in the tech community by giving talks and leading workshops on topics like AI integration, app development, and cybersecurity fundamentals. I love sharing what I’ve learned, such as how to build practical tools powered by OpenAI’s API, teaching others how to code secure applications, or showing how automation can free up creative energy. Contributing to meetups, panels, and hands-on sessions is my way of paying it forward, and it also allows me to connect with other passionate builders, learners, and professionals in this fast-moving space. Every time I lead or attend an event, I walk away more inspired and better connected. It reminds me that we grow faster when we grow together.
